Fans of Ernest Hemingway (1899 - 1961) know of the Big Two-Hearted and Fox Rivers in Michigan's Upper Peninsula from reading his Nick Adams stories, many of which involve trout fishing. As a boy, Hemingway honed his skill at fly fishing for trout on the renowned Au Sable River, and fishing remained a touchstone in his life wherever his travels led him. Pictured here are Hemingway's Hardy Bros. 8-foot, 6-inch, 3-piece "Fairy Rod" (1939) and his "McGinty Bee" fly.
