Silky-voiced crooner and actor Bing Crosby (1903 - 1977) was an avid fisherman and golfer who grew up in the Pacific Northwest where great fishing spots are plentiful. In his biography, Call Me Lucky, Crosby revealed that his "personal nomination for the greatest thrill of them all is to fish a good trout stream. For sheer excitement, the rainbow trout is the king of them." Crosby's gear included the Orvis "Shooting Star" impregnated bamboo salmon fly rod, 9½-foot, 2-piece and A.F. Meisselback "Rainbow No.631" fly reel (1930).
